Iconic Surf Spots
- Banzai Pipeline: Known as one of the most popular surf spots in the world. Pipeline is a reef break that produces massive, barreling waves during the winter months (November to February). It attracts professional surfers from around the globe, but it’s important to note that it’s an extremely challenging wave and not suitable for beginners.
- Sunset Beach: Another legendary surf spot on the North Shore, Sunset Beach is famous for its powerful and hollow waves. It’s a favorite among professional surfers and hosts major surfing competitions. The winter swells bring in big waves, while summer months (from May to September) bring smaller waves conditions.
- Rocky Point: Located in Sunset Beach, Rocky Point is a reef break that offers quality waves for intermediate and advanced surfers. The spot offers both left and right-hand waves, and it can get quite crowded during peak surf seasons.
4. Waimea Bay: is known for its massive waves, which can reach heights of 30 feet or more during the winter season. It’s also home to surf competitions like The Eddie Big Wave Invitational, an event held in honor of legendary Hawaiian surfer Eddie Aikau. Waimea Bay is recommended for experienced surfers due to its powerful and challenging conditions.
5. Haleiwa: Located in the heart of the North Shore, Haleiwa offers a range of surf breaks suitable for all skill levels. Ali’i Beach Park, located in Haleiwa, is a popular spot for beginners and intermediate surfers. The breaks at Haleiwa offer a more forgiving experience compared to the more intense waves found at Pipeline or Waimea Bay.
