North Shore Beaches

north shore beaches

Whether you like surfing, snorkeling, sunbathing, or swimming, the North Shore has a beach for you. Our winter season is famous for it’s incredible surfing while our summers are more mellow and you’ll find that those waves, once rushing towards shore, have retreated, and the Pacific is calm again, beckoning you to explore. Visiting in winter and still want to play in the ocean? No worries, below you’ll find a beach for every activity at every time of the year.

Summer: May – September
Winter: October – April

PLEASE BE ADVISED! TAKE SERIOUSLY ALL POSTED SIGNS NEAR ALL WATERFRONTS AND WHAT THE LIFEGUARDS SAY, GOES!

SUNSET BEACH // SUNSET BEACH PARK

Located just a few steps from our door, Sunset Beach is famous for it’s massive waves in winter and it’s spectacular sunsets. Situated perfectly so you can watch the sun sink below the horizon right on the water, it’s a romantic spot for couples and a fun photo op for family and friends. Be sure to obey all posted signs in winter as the water is very rough & dangerous for inexperienced ocean goers, while in summer it’s a beautiful swimming spot. Sunset Beach, from perfect waves to spectacular views, this beach has it all.

PIPELINE // EHUKAI BEACH PARK

Prepare yourself for one of the most adrenaline pumping waves on the planet. Whether surfing or watching, this wave is heavy and a close theater for the audience on the beach. World renown as it is dangerous, this beach and wave is worth checking out. As with most beaches on the North Shore in winter, don’t get near the water unless you are experienced in rough conditions, but once summer comes the Pacific is calm once more.

THREE TABLES BEACH & SHARK’S COVE // PUPUKEA BEACH PARK

Three Tables Beach, so called that because of the three flat platforms of reef that sit just above the water, is a beautiful little beach with plenty of parking and great swimming / snorkeling. Just a few steps away is Shark’s Cove. Rated by Scuba Diving Magazine as one of the “Top 12 Shore Dives in the World,” it has certainly earned that honor by being chock full of beautiful tropical fish. Sitting right across the street from Foodland and Sharks Cove Grill, it’s a great place to hang out, grab lunch, and explore the reefs!

WAIMEA BAY // WAIAMEA BAY BEACH PARK

A beach famous for being the place where The Eddie is held as well as the focus of the surf world in the 1950’s for it’s larger than life waves (and personalities who surfed it), Waimea Bay still enchants to this day. Situated in front of Waimea Valley, in the summer the bay is crystal clear and flat – a wonderful fishing, swimming, and snorkeling spot, while in winter it churns out some of the biggest waves on the North Shore. Parking is tough, so get there early!

LANIAKEA & CHUNS BEACHES

Laniakea Beach, if you’ve heard anything about this small strip of sand it was probably of the green sea turtles! Easily one of the North Shore’s most popular tourist attractions (and a true point break), currently the parking for the area is being reconfigured which makes it a bit more difficult to get to. Make sure you leave no valuables in your car & obey all signs about the turtles! Mythological, there are many legends surrounding these turtles and they are considered the guardians of the sea. Please be respectful and do not harass, touch, ride, or in anyway disturb these majestic creatures as your snorkel and snap photos.
